This last few days of the year have been really busy with projects and implementing the website –which I am still working on–, but still I wanted to take some time to make an illustration specially dedicated to the holidays.
One of my favorite traditions of the season is going to our local Christmas Market in Barcelona, called La Fira de Santa Llúcia and picking out the mistletoe, eucaliptus, wreath and, eventually, the Christmas tree. This Christmas market is located in front Barcelona's cathedral and I believe it has over two hundred years of existence. Since I was a little girl, I remember going there every year and buying all the necessary and traditional decorating items that we display at our homes. Inspired by all these beautiful christmas vegetation, I chose mistletoe as my favorite piece for this year.
I used basically watercolors, as you can see. Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors have been a real discovery for me this year and I surely used them in all my illustrations. I started with a light layer of color and then I progressively added more layers until I got the desired color saturation. The special touch was the metallic golden watercolor –also from the Kuretake set– that I felt was specially appropriate for this festive season.
And here's the final result...
So, once again, I wanted to wish you all Happy Holidays and that 2017 is filled with art and wonderful projects. See you all next year!
Thank you, Miriam.
